April 21th  1864
     Dear brother   I seat my Self down
to write you a few lines to let you know
that we are all well at present and hope
these few lines will find you Still enjoying
good health.  I received you letter on the 13th
and was glad to hear that you was well and
hearty  welll I don't know what to write only
we have a cold backward Spring  we feed as
much as we do in the winter  grass is beginning
to Show it Self.  Some three weeks a go we got
a letter from uncle Joseph Wellman  he Said he
been Sick ever Since the 27 of December he had
rheumatism and the tyford fever  he Said
for Six weeks he wasent able to turn in his
bed and he wrote about his oldest boy dyind
he died on the 21 of February with the
nervous fever.  Just four months to day brother
John bid adieu to this world and all its
Sorrows and Cares.  and I hope he gone to that
happy land where Clatering of arms or the
roaring Cannon is heard no more and where
there is no more hospitals to Suffer in and
where wars is no more.  we found three religiony
Books in his Carpet Sack  they were all the Books
he had  one was a Soldiers pocket book and
the other was Come to Jesus and the other was
a testament  they looked like they had been
right Smartly used.  well I don't know as
I have much more to write  mother wants to
know if you are needing any Socks
or any thing if you are She will Send them
to you  well I donÌt know whether I can
Send my potograph in this letter or not
I haint got it taken yet and it is rainy
to day  it may be that I can get it taken
to day.  I want you to be Shure and Send
yours  well I will bring my letter to a close
you must excuse me for not writing
   Sooner and I want you to write as Soon
as you Can  So no more at present
