Dear Brother I now
embrace this opportunity
to answer your kind
and welcom letter and
also received a letter from
James Amerman he said
they was well he said the
girls and Boys Come in
one night and they had
a find time he Said he
thought of you and george
Funcanon and me I think
if we live to get back we
will Set them up for ninty
days John I am well at
presant only my eyes is
verry weak and I hope
you are enjoying the Same
blessing
John we are Camp 7
miles South of Nashville
we are guarding the Rail
Road and the guards is
heavy. I have to go on
Picket every other day
there is greate many troops
here we are waiteing till
they Commenist fighting
at Vicksburg and the
troops is here are going
to tare up the Rail Road
between Richmond and
Vicksburg to cut of there
Supplies I think if we
get Vicksburg the Rebels
will be plaid out John
I hope we will be at
home before the year rolls
around for I dont think
this war can last always
John we had quiet a time
of it Coming from Lewis
Ville to Nashville on the
Boats we landed at fort
Donalson the day after
the fight and I was over
the Battle field to see some
of the wounded there was
Seven thousand Rebels a gainst
nine hundred of our troops
and we flax them out
we buryed 100 & 60 of the
Rebels and therre was only
40 on our Sides kill and
wounded There was thirteen
kill on our Side but if
it hadant been for our gun
Boats the Rebels would have
taken them all Prisoners
well John the Rebels has broke
out in Kentuckey a gain
they are expecting a fight
at Lexington kentuckey mite
as well been out of the
union as to be what it
was when we was back
there the Citizens Clame to
be for the union when they
wasant the Citizens in Old
Tennessee they Come out
Just what they are and we
know how to take them
well John they are talking
to get up a body guard
for our Brigade Generl they
want three men out of every Company. Well I must bring
my letter to Close. Ren White
Said he is able to Set upon
his ass and eat his Rashions
well John give uncle
James my best respects
and all the rest of the Boys
in that Company So no more
